Apni Chat Apna Ghar Scheme 2025
On August 21, the Honorable Chief Minister launched the “Apni Chat Apna Ghar Scheme”, a transformative initiative aimed at providing low-income families with access to affordable housing through soft loans. This visionary step addresses a long-standing issue the lack of secure shelter for millions of deserving citizens in Punjab.

Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility for this scheme is designed to be inclusive yet focused on those who truly need it. Here’s how it works:
- The scheme is open to nuclear families (husband, wife, children).
- If the property is in the husband or wife’s name, they are eligible.
- In extended families, if an individual (18 years or older) owns a property and resides with their parents but does not own a separate home, they can also apply.
- Both urban and rural areas are included in scheme. The requirement is:
- 5 Marla plot in cities
- 10 Marla plot in villages
Note : There is no district limitation. For example, someone working in Lahore with a plot in Khanewal can still apply for the loan to build a house in Khanewal.
Online Application Portal
Thanks to the development of a user-friendly online application system, the scheme has already seen a massive response. PTV played a vital role in promoting awareness. So far:
- Over 180,000 people have submitted their complete documents.
- Nearly 70,000 applicants have downloaded the application form and are in the process of uploading their property documents.
The total number of potential applicants has reached nearly 250,000, showing immense interest and need for this initiative.

Loan Details
- Maximum loan amount: PKR 1.5 million (15 lakhs)
- Monthly installment: Not more than PKR 14,000
- Repayment period: Up to 14 years
- The government has ensured flexibility in the loan tenure so that repayments remain manageable.
Selection & Verification Procedure
The selection process is carried out through a transparent balloting system. The first balloting was done on September 5 in DG Khan, followed by province-wide balloting.
Microfinance institutions are now conducting on-ground verification. This includes:
- Verifying land possession and plot details
- Visiting applicant homes
- Checking property ownership
This ensures that only genuinely deserving people benefit from the scheme.
Legal Safeguards
To prevent misuse:
- Instead of mortgaging the property, a legal lien is created on the applicant’s plot.
- This mortgage is officially registered by the Government, which ensures the plot cannot be sold or transferred until the loan is fully repaid.
- If someone tries to divert funds elsewhere or fails to build a house, legal action can be taken.
What If 15 Lakhs Isn’t Enough to Build a House?
Some applicants expressed concerns that PKR 1.5 million may not be sufficient. In such cases, the government is:
- Reviewing cost-effective building solutions
- Ensuring that loans go only to those who truly deserve assistance, not for luxury construction
- Focusing on basic, livable, and safe housing
Conclusion
The “Apni Chat Apna Ghar” scheme is not just about building homes, it’s about building dignity, security, and dreams. With transparent procedures, supportive loan terms, and a strong verification system, this initiative could become a model for other provinces
